My Neighbor Called The Police On Me For Mowing My Lawn At 10 AM On Saturday

My neighbor has called the police on me three times this month.
Every time, it’s because I’m mowing my lawn.
At 10 AM.
On Saturday.
The first time, the officer showed up and told me there was no violation.
The second time, the officer actually apologized.
The third time, he looked embarrassed.
My neighbor kept insisting I was violating a noise ordinance.
I checked the local rules.
I wasn’t.
So I started documenting everything.
Dates.
Times.
Police visits.
Noise levels.
Then I installed a camera facing my driveway.
One Saturday morning, I started mowing.
Twenty minutes later, my neighbor came outside.
He wasn’t angry.
He was watching my house.
Specifically, the garage.
I zoomed in on the footage.
He was taking pictures.
I asked him what he was doing.
He said:
“Nothing.”
Then he went inside.
A few days later, I received a letter from the city.
It claimed someone had reported an illegal construction project on my property.
There wasn’t one.
I contacted the city inspector.
He told me the complaint included photographs.
Photographs taken from my neighbor’s property.
That’s when I realized the lawn complaints were a distraction.
My neighbor wasn’t really interested in the noise.
He wanted city officials repeatedly coming to my property.
Why?
Because he was trying to create a record suggesting I was violating multiple regulations.
I eventually discovered the reason.
He wanted to buy my house.
Apparently, his property couldn’t be expanded because of zoning restrictions.
My property could.
He believed that if I accumulated enough violations, I would be forced to sell cheaply.
He had been trying to pressure me for months.
The police officer who had responded to the third complaint later told me something interesting.
My neighbor had also complained about the previous owner.
Same accusations.
Same pattern.
The previous owner eventually moved.
My neighbor bought the property next door and tried to repeat the process with me.
It didn’t work.
I installed better cameras, documented everything, and reported the harassment.
The city dismissed his complaints.
Now every Saturday morning, I mow my lawn at exactly 10 AM.
Not because I enjoy annoying him.
But because I’ve decided that if he’s going to waste everyone’s time over my lawn, he can at least listen to it grow.
