My Coworker Stole My Lunch Every Day For A Month And Denied It

Someone had been stealing my lunch.
Not once.
Almost every day.
I’d bring a sandwich.
It disappeared.
I’d bring leftovers.
Gone.
I tried labeling everything.
Still gone.
I asked around the office.
Nobody knew anything.
One coworker even joked:
“Maybe your lunch is just really good.”
It wasn’t funny anymore.
I bought a small camera and placed it inside the fridge area where it was legally permitted.
Three days later, I caught her.
My coworker Lisa.
She opened the fridge.
Took my container.
Ate the food at her desk.
Then threw the container away.
I confronted her.
She looked shocked.
“I would never steal your food.”
I showed her the video.
She stared at it.
Then said:
“That isn’t what it looks like.”
I asked what it looked like.
She said someone must have used her account.
I was confused.
She claimed the camera footage had been edited.
I sent the footage to HR.
They investigated.
Then they discovered something strange.
Lisa had been doing it for more than a year.
Not just to me.
She had been stealing food from almost everyone.
But there was another reason she kept denying it.
She had been telling people she was following a strict diet and never ate certain foods.
Apparently, she was embarrassed that she couldn’t afford lunch every day.
Several coworkers offered to help her.
She refused.
Instead, she kept stealing.
HR didn’t fire her.
They gave her a warning.
And the office started a shared lunch program where employees could contribute food for anyone who needed it.
Lisa apologized.
I accepted.
But I still put my name on everything.
Not because I think she’s going to steal again.
Because now I know how quickly a missing sandwich can turn into an entire office investigation.
