My Fiancé Proposed To Me Using His Ex-Girlfriend’s Ring He Never Told Me He Still Had

I said yes before I knew what I was saying yes to.
When my fiancé Daniel got down on one knee, I was crying so hard I could barely see the ring.
We had been together for two years. He had talked about marriage for months, so the proposal itself wasn’t a surprise. The ring was.
It was beautiful.
A vintage-looking oval diamond with tiny stones around it.
Daniel told me it belonged to his grandmother.
I believed him.
Three weeks later, I took it to a jeweler because it was slightly loose.
The jeweler turned it over under a magnifying lamp.
“Interesting,” she said.
I asked what she meant.
She pointed to the inside of the band.
There was an inscription.
A woman’s name.
“Emily — 11/14/2021.”
I stared at it.
Our engagement had happened in 2024.
“Who’s Emily?”
Daniel went completely silent when I showed him the picture.
Then he said, “It’s nothing.”
That answer immediately made it something.
I searched through old social media posts and found Emily.
She wasn’t some random ex.
She was his fiancée.
They had been engaged three years earlier.
And in one old photo, Emily was wearing the exact ring Daniel had just given me.
I confronted him.
He admitted the truth.
He had proposed to Emily in 2021. She had returned the ring after discovering he had been cheating.
But then came the part that made my stomach drop.
He hadn’t kept the ring because he couldn’t afford another one.
He kept it because Emily had never officially given him permission to sell it.
According to him, he had planned to sell it eventually.
Instead, three years later, he gave it to me.
I asked why he lied about it belonging to his grandmother.
He said he was afraid I’d “overreact.”
I asked whether Emily knew he had given me the ring.
He said no.
So I contacted her.
I expected anger.
Instead, she sent me a message that changed everything.
“He told you the ring belonged to his grandmother?”
Then she sent me another screenshot.
It was a message Daniel had sent her six months before proposing to me.
He had written:
“I still think about us sometimes. I still have the ring.”
Apparently, he had been contacting Emily for months.
Not because he wanted the ring back.
Because he wanted her back.
She had rejected him.
That’s when I realized the ring wasn’t a romantic gesture.
It was a backup plan.
Emily had been Plan A.
I was Plan B.
I gave Daniel the ring back.
He cried. He apologized. He promised he had changed.
I didn’t care.
Because while I was planning our wedding, he had apparently been keeping another woman emotionally on standby.
The strangest part?
Two days after I ended the engagement, Emily messaged me again.
She said:
“I think you should know why I left him.”
Then she attached 17 screenshots.
I haven’t opened them yet.
I’m honestly terrified of what I’ll find.
