I Discovered My Husband Has Been Texting His Ex Every Day For Two Years

My husband’s phone lit up while he was in the shower.
I wasn’t snooping.
I was sitting next to it.
The message preview said:
“Do you still think about me?”
The sender was his ex-wife.
I knew they occasionally communicated because of mutual friends.
But this felt different.
When my husband came back, I asked him about it.
He immediately grabbed the phone.
“She’s just checking in.”
I asked how often they talked.
He said:
“Not much.”
That night, I couldn’t sleep.
The next morning, I asked him again.
He admitted they talked occasionally.
Then I found a message from her dated two days earlier.
It said:
“Two years and you still haven’t told her.”
I froze.
Two years?
I eventually discovered an archived messaging app on his phone.
There were thousands of messages.
Every day.
For two years.
They talked about everything.
Our marriage.
Our arguments.
My habits.
Our finances.
Even our bedroom.
I felt physically sick.
I confronted him.
He admitted he’d been emotionally involved with her but insisted they had never physically cheated.
I asked why she kept saying he hadn’t told me something.
He wouldn’t answer.
Then his ex sent me a message.
She told me the truth.
Before we got married, my husband had promised her he would leave me.
Except I hadn’t even known she was back in his life.
She said he kept telling her:
“Give me time.”
For two years.
He had apparently been keeping both relationships alive.
I asked him why he married me.
He said:
“Because I thought we’d work out.”
That sentence destroyed me.
Then came the final twist.
His ex wasn’t trying to get him back.
She had been waiting for him to tell me the truth.
She sent me their messages because she was tired of being his secret too.
She told me:
“He has done this before.”
Apparently, I wasn’t the first woman he’d kept in a relationship while secretly maintaining another emotional relationship with his ex.
I filed for divorce.
The messages became part of the evidence.
The hardest part wasn’t discovering that he loved someone else.
It was realizing that for two years, someone else knew more about my marriage than I did.
